5 Ways to Optimize Blog Images for SEO.
Think About Proper File Name
Prior to uploading your photo to your blog, you need to name it something that is rich with keywords. For example if you have a photo of cows in Vermont, it should be named something like IMG_cows_Vermont as that file name is keyword rich. Remember that search engine robots scan your entire blog and see images as text not as an actual photo. Think about what a user may place into the search box to find your blog post that includes this photo and name the file appropriately prior to upload.
Update Alt Text
Use the Alt Text option within your blog dashboard when uploading an image to your blog post. The alt text will add more value to your photo when a search engine robot comes to index your content. Alt Text is what shows up when someone hovers over the image and is what the robots read when they scan your blog post to index it. You may use longer descriptions in Alt Text such as: traveling in Vermont I happened upon some beautiful cows. This helps you rank higher and allows robots to fully comprehend what your image and blog post is about.

Optimize Photo Size
While size may not be something most blogger’s think about when it comes to SEO for images, it’s vitally important. Page load time matters when it comes to whether or not you get indexed properly or at all in search engines. A search engine robot won’t spend countless minutes waiting for your images or site to load, that’s why you need to make sure you optimize your photo size prior to upload or use a WP plugin called smush it to really ensure the photo is properly sized.
Use a Caption
In addition to the alt text and alt description area, you should use a caption whenever possible. Think about SEO of images in this way, the more text you can have around that image or linked to that image the higher percentage that your photo within the blog post will be indexed properly. Based upon experience, I have seen photos show up higher in search engine results than the actual blog post link. Think about that and make sure to take full advantage of SEO’ing your photos for every blog post you publish online.
